Who We Are

SoEcology Ltd was set up by Ecologist Sophie Lancaster in Spring 2020. Sophie studied at Plymouth University and has a bachelor's degree (BSc) in Environmental Science and a master's (MSc) in Environmental Consultancy. Whilst undertaking her MSc she completed a thesis on behalf of Pond Net, which contributed to the nationwide study that made eDNA an accepted survey method.

Since 2013 Sophie has worked full-time as an Ecologist and Senior Ecologist in private consultancies and has managed a wide range of developments, from homeowner proposals to 1000+ housing development schemes.

Sophie is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management and holds class licences for bats (level 2) and great crested newt (level 1). Sophie is also registered professional under the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), in addition to being trained for Personal Track Safety on the railways, including third rail. In her spare time Sophie is a keen botanist and in her voluntary work as a bat carer was Hampshire Bat Care Co-ordinator in 2018.
